Mission of Advocates for Ohio’s Future

Advocates for Ohio’s Future promotes health and human service budget and policy solutions so that all Ohioans live better lives. AOF focuses on the following priorities in order to achieve its mission:

  • Healthy children and families
Ensure that people of all ages have comprehensive health care coverage, without barriers or cuts, and can access required health services. Ensure public policy appropriately addresses the social determinants of health, in particular, food, clothing and shelter. A healthy workforce is a productive workforce. Our public policies will make Ohioans healthier and more competitive.

  • Quality communities
Ensure that people of all ages have a safe and affordable place to live, access to transportation, access to healthy food, and have access to essential services in their communities.

  • Pathways to prosperity for all
Ensure that low income Ohioans have the appropriate skills and supports to be competitive in the new economy. This requires an investment in education from early childhood on, job training, necessary work supports and programing for at risk individuals to avoid involvement with the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

Equity is a consideration in AOF’s position and should be a consideration of all policy proposals. Historically, laws and policies have institutionalized racism and bias against marginalized groups. AOF will advocate for policies that provide necessary resources and services to at-risk populations to ensure an individual’s well-being and success are not predictable by race, class, geography, language, gender, or other relevant social factors.
