For over 25 years, the State of Poverty in Ohio Report has taken a deep look at poverty in Ohio. The challenges of poverty ebb and flow with the availability of jobs, access to transportation, affordable housing, and other factors like addiction.
As research progressed this year, OACAA found strong correlations between access to transportation, affordable housing, and income opportunities. Ohio counties with more affordable housing options have fewer opportunities for living-wage employment and transportation. And, counties with more access to transportation and jobs, have fewer affordable housing options. These factors have left families to make difficult and life-changing choices: move or stay where the jobs are, where the transportation is, or where housing is available.
Ohioans shouldn’t have to choose which obstacle to conquer and that they can overcome whatever is standing in the way of reaching their fullest potential.
